Transplant Team Training

We welcomed storm Boelo and around twenty players from the GB Pétanque Transplant Team to the pistes on Sunday morning as part of their preparation for the World Transplant Games in Belgium in 2027. The team expects to take thirty players to play pétanque most of whom will also play in other sports.

As mentioned in a previous report, the captain of the team introduced the Mike Marshall award to an event in Bridlington earlier this year. This award is given to the player who consistently performs outstandingly throughout the competition, even if they do not necessarily win the competition. The award is in honour of Mike and his memory, encouraging players to develop and commit to pétanque. Some of the players he encouraged are still part of the team and are consistent medallists at the World and European Transplant games. Mike Molyneux and Fran Middleton are particularly notable as serial winners in the pairs event.
